Start your journey with seamless border assistance before venturing into the vast Sahara, following the iron ore train tracks to remote villages. Discover Ben Amera, the world’s second-largest monolith, explore ancient rock paintings, and walk through the historic ruins of Azougi. Visit the UNESCO-listed city of Chinguetti, home to one of Africa’s oldest libraries, and immerse yourself in the lush palm groves of Terjit Oasis. Conclude your journey in Nouakchott, carrying memories of breathtaking dunes, timeless traditions, and the magic of the desert.
Itinerary ⊵
Day 1: Arrival in Nouakchott
Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Nouakchott–Akjoujt –Azoueiga Dunes
After breakfast, depart north towards Akjoujt (265 km). Picnic in the desert under trees. Continue to large dunes of Azoueiga, passing nomads. Overnight in Azoueiga.
Day 3: Erg Amatlich – Elgleitatt Oasis
Leave bivouac, passing Erg Amatlich, Foum Tizigui, and Meddah. Lunch and visit the area. Continue to Elgleitatt Oasis. Overnight.
Day 4: Tifoujar Pass – Terjit – Mheirth Oasis
Descend through Tifoujar Pass, cross White Valley and Tezentt Valley, arrive at Terjit Oasis for lunch. Continue to Mheirth Oasis. Overnight in local camping/traditional buildings.
Day 5: Mheirth – Chinguetti via Zarga
After 30 km from Mheirth, reach Zarga Mountain Range (Adrar)for a picnic. Continue 50 km to Chinguetti. Climb Guiti Dune for sunset. Overnight in a hostel.
Day 6: Chinguetti – Tenouchert Oasis – Ouadane
Visit mosque and library, then travel 45 km to Tenouchert Oasis. Lunch nearby. Continue to Ouadane and visit the old town. Overnight at a hostel.
Day 7: Ouadane – GuelbRichatt –Atar
Visit Guelb Richatt (“Eye of Africa”). Head to Atar, lunch at rock painting site at Agrour. Afternoon visit to Fortsagan. Possible night at Azougi Oasis.
Day 8: Atar – Choum
Visit Atar city. Travel to Choum. Overnight at a hostel.
Day 9: Desert Train
Board desert train. Overnight on train.
Day 10: Arrival in Nouadhibou
Arrive in Nouadhibou in the afternoon, visit city and Cap Blanc. Overnight at hotel.
Day 11: Banc d’Arguin
Drive to Banc d’Arguin National Park. Overnight in campsite.
Day 12: Iwik Islands
Lunch and visit islands to learn about fishing with locals. Overnight at campsite.
Day 13: Coastal Exploration
Explore fishing camps along the coast. Overnight at the beach.
Day 14: Nouakchott
Visit camel market,fishing gate, national museum, capital market.
Day 15: Departure
Return home.
